Coral, Sharks and Sewing

Yes, I do appreciate we are now getting into the Autumn season, however this dress was too much fun not to share and it got to be worn in September, just not in the UK.

This is lots of drape and a low, open back with a bow - just right for 35 degrees in southern Spain!

I had previously discovered that Fibre Mood patterns fit me quite well, and after making a few of their patterns now - I saw this really different sun dress called Coral.

It is not something I would ever have entertained previously - but all this hot weather and heatwave made me rethink, and also it would be fun to try something new.  I am so glad I did!

Once again the sizing put me at an L and that's where it got started.

I did make a few little changes after the fact though. The front of the dress is gathered onto a large facing - after I had made the dress, it hung really low on my chest - so I actually just popped a box pleat in the centre front and this brought it up to a comfortable level. I also shortened the front straps by an inch aswell for the same reason. These little tweaks made for a much better fit.

This fabric is amazing - Octopus and sea creatures from Soi Moi in the teal colourway.

The back of the dress is very low, but it doesn't flash anything unnecessary. I did wear this with a pair of natural fibre shorts from Snag underneath just for comfort and clambering about as it is quite short.

The straps are shaped into your back which is a nice touch but I did struggle a bit to face everything and have it sit flat. The print is busy enough to hide any dodgy sewing. The bow is a lovely touch too, and although optional I did find it stopped the shoulder straps sliding off.

I made this dress for a trip away to Barcelona, knowing it would be hot enough to still wear over there. It was absolutely perfect for walking around all day, staying comfortable, and also for a little secret side mission where a quick change was needed - swimming with sharks!

If you are going into summer right now, off abroad or want to save a pattern for next year, this is another great option for the hot hot heat.

Ciao for now, from me and my new sand tiger shark friend Shirka!
